When a person realizes that they have committed a sin, a sense of unease arises within them. This uneasiness is not accidental. It is a sign that the heart is still alive. If a person understands that they have made a mistake, it means there is still a feeling within them that distinguishes right from wrong. This feeling sometimes appears as regret, sometimes as discomfort, and sometimes as an unexplainable heaviness.
However, there comes a stage when a person no longer feels their mistakes. They commit a sin, yet their heart does not feel disturbed. They speak, but their conscience remains silent. This is precisely the most dangerous state. Not the sin itself, but the inability to feel it leads a person into a deeper abyss.
The first sin is never easy. When a person commits it, there is resistance within them. It is as if a voice says, “Don’t do it.” This voice may be weak or strong, but it is always present. When a person ignores this voice, they try to silence it. The first time is difficult, the second time becomes easier, and by the third time, it begins to feel normal.
Over time, sin begins to take a place in a person’s life. Things that once caused discomfort start to seem normal. A person convinces themselves that it is not such a big issue. Gradually, the heart begins to lose its ability to feel. Sin no longer appears as sin.
This change does not happen suddenly. It is a silent process. A person does not notice how they are changing. Only one day, when they look back, do they realize that what once troubled them no longer affects them at all. This is one of the clearest signs of a hardened heart.
The heart is the most sensitive part of a person. It can receive both light and darkness. Every sin leaves a mark on the heart. Over time, these marks accumulate. If a person does not repent, they begin to cover the heart. At a certain point, a person struggles to feel the truth.
The most dangerous aspect is that a person may feel fine in this state. They are calm, not disturbed, and consider themselves normal. Yet this calmness is the result of inner emptiness. The heart no longer reacts.
If a person feels regret after committing a sin, it means the path to salvation is still open. But when a person begins to justify their mistakes, the situation changes. They no longer simply commit the sin; they accept it, and sometimes even defend it. This pushes the heart further away.
Sometimes a person says, “I am not doing anything bad.” But the issue is not only with obvious sins. The most dangerous ones are often invisible — those hidden in intentions, formed in thoughts, not expressed in actions, but living within the heart. As long as a person does not feel them, their influence grows deeper.
A person also deceives themselves when they compare themselves to others. Seeing that someone else commits more mistakes, they feel relieved. But this comparison is incorrect. Every person is responsible for their own heart. The mistakes of others do not reduce one’s own.
The most dangerous aspect of sin is when it becomes ordinary. A person gets used to it and accepts it as a part of life. They no longer want to change because they no longer see it as a problem. This halts inner growth.
The hardening of the heart does not happen all at once. It occurs gradually. Every mistake you fail to feel, every wrong you ignore, accelerates this process.
Sometimes a person wonders why they no longer feel as they used to. Why their prayers no longer feel as close, why their worship no longer has the same effect. The reason is often that the heart has slowly become covered.
A person cannot change if the heart does not feel. To change, one must first feel. A person who does not feel their sin does not feel the need to abandon it. This keeps them in the same state.
At times, there are moments in life when a person stops and reflects, questioning themselves. These moments are very valuable because in those moments, a person comes closer to their heart. If these moments are lost, a person slowly drifts away from themselves.
The danger of sin is not only related to the hereafter. It also affects a person’s condition in this world. The heart loses its peace, yet the person does not understand why. Inner discomfort increases, but the reasons are sought elsewhere.
A person must learn to protect their heart. Because the heart determines direction. Whatever the heart accepts, the person moves toward. If the heart accepts sin as normal, the person turns it into a part of life.
The greatest danger is when a person considers themselves good. They believe everything is fine, while inside many things may have already changed. A person who does not question themselves cannot change.
Sometimes the path to salvation begins with a simple feeling — regret. This feeling shows that the heart is still alive. If a person preserves it, they can find themselves again.
The most dangerous sin is not the biggest one. The most dangerous sin is the one a person no longer sees as a sin. Because in that case, they no longer want to change. And a person who does not want to change remains where they are.
A person must always listen to their heart. Because when the heart becomes silent, a person begins to lose themselves. And this is where the real danger begins.
