The Holy Qur’an is the sacred book of Islam, sent down to humanity as guidance and light. Its revelation is considered not only a turning point in the history of Islam, but also a pivotal moment in the moral and spiritual evolution of all mankind.

The Process of the Qur’an’s Revelation

The revelation of the Qur’an coincides with the beginning of the prophetic mission of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). According to Islamic sources, the first revelation was received in the Cave of Hira through the angel Jibreel (Gabriel). These were the opening verses of Surah Al-‘Alaq:

"Read in the name of your Lord who created!
Created man from a clot of blood.
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous –
Who taught by the pen –
Taught man what he did not know."

(Surah Al-‘Alaq, 96:1–5)

This revelation marked the beginning of a new era for the Prophet. Over a period of 23 years, the Qur’an was revealed gradually, concluding with the verse from Surah Al-Ma’idah:

"This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion."
(Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:3)

The Wisdom and Importance of the Revelation of the Qur’an

A Source of Guidance – The Qur’an was revealed as a guide to lead humanity along the straight path. It provides perfect instructions on faith, worship, morality, and social structure.

Gradual Revelation – Revealing the Qur’an over 23 years allowed people to absorb its verses, apply them in their lives, and adapt to the changes gradually.

A Message for All Mankind – The Qur’an was not sent solely to the Arab nation, but to all of humanity. Its message is universal and remains equally relevant across all times and cultures.

A Divinely Protected Book – Unlike previous scriptures, the Qur’an has been preserved in its original form by the promise of Allah:

"Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an, and indeed, We will be its guardian."
(Surah Al-Hijr, 15:9)

Conclusion

The revelation of the Qur’an is one of the greatest blessings from Allah to humanity. It is not just a scripture for past nations, but an eternal guide covering all aspects of life for every human being. Reading it, understanding its meaning, and applying its teachings in our lives is a sacred duty for every Muslim.
